The Lighthouse is the place at The Hague University of Applied Sciences where students can be inspired by activities on social themes, current debates and cultural enrichment.
In order to better align with what students really find important, a survey was conducted among all students at THUAS in September. No fewer than 959 students completed the questionnaire. Their answers provide valuable insights into the wishes and needs surrounding The Lighthouse's offerings. With these results, The Lighthouse can tailor its programming even better to what inspires, challenges and connects students.

What do we do with the results?
The results of the research give us a lot of inspiration and direction for the future of The Lighthouse. We are happy that so many students feel involved. As many as 96 students have indicated that they want to actively participate in a sounding board group, and a large group even wants to organize events themselves. We are happy to seize that enthusiasm!
In the coming period, we will therefore take the following steps:
- Student sounding board group: we are starting a Lighthouse sounding board group in which students structurally contribute ideas about themes, speakers and forms of activities. This group helps us to tailor our programming even better to the interests of students.
- Student-led events: students who want to organize something themselves get the chance to do so together with The Lighthouse. To this end, we are developing an accessible process in which students can submit their idea, receive guidance in the implementation and become part of the Lighthouse programme.
- Tailor-made programming: we use the input from the research to further strengthen themes such as art & culture, politics, mental health and diversity in our program.
- Better visibility: many students indicated that they did not yet know The Lighthouse well. We will therefore be more visible at all locations of THUAS, via Student Portal, posters and social media, so that no one has to miss our activities.
In this way, together with students, we are building a Lighthouse that is even more alive within THUAS - by students, for students
