How satisfied are students with the library of THUAS?

In October, the first survey was conducted among the student panel of The Hague University of Applied Sciences on the subject of library use and satisfaction. 242 panel members completed the survey. Thank you for completing the questionnaire, because your input is important! By sharing your opinion and ideas, you influence the choices THUAS makes. We are happy to share the results of this survey with you.

Results of the survey

  • Students are satisfied with the physical library at the main building and the digital library, giving them a score of 7.5 and 7.0 respectively.
  • Two thirds of the students visit the library at the main building and seven out of ten students stay for 30 minutes or more on average. Seven out of ten students would not visit the library more often if it was open later (after 10:30 p.m.).
  • As a place to study/work students are most satisfied with the Wi-Fi network, facilities and number of individual study/workplaces of the library. Students are less satisfied with the number of group workplaces.
  • In general students find important at the library a quiet/silent environment and comfortable chairs/good desk at the library. Half of the students also consider the atmosphere, findability of the collection and sufficient and up-to-date collection important.
  • Eight out of ten students are familiar with the digital library. Almost half of these students also use it.
  • Asked for wishes and tips, students spontaneously indicate that they would like more varied studyplaces with comfortable chairs for the physical library. A focus on quiet places is also important for students. In addition, the digital library could be more user-friendly.
  • Most students want to be informed of news about the library via Brightspace, followed by a message on Student Portal.

  • Curious about the whole report? You can download it on this page.

What are we going to do with the results?
The above results will be used to further improve the library's services. There are plans for adjustments to the layout of the physical library and Study Plaza at the main building such as more (closed) group workplaces, new chairs (for Study Plaza) and adjustments to acoustics and lighting. Depending on feasibility, a start will be made in the summer holidays of 2023 and the remaining adjustments will be implemented in phases. Students will also be involved in the development of the plans. Communication with students will also be optimized, for instance by providing more information on the use of the digital library and information via Brightspace.

THUAS would like to thank all students who contributed to this survey.
